Creole
Culture Day

Saturday, October 3, 2026 · Town Hall Park · Free and open to the public. The first Saturday of October every year, anchoring October Creole Heritage Month. A hands-on celebration of Louisiana Creole heritage — boucherie, cooking demo, French bingo, genealogy, food, and live music.

The Tradition

What It Is

Creole Culture Day is a free, public, annual celebration of Louisiana Creole heritage. It centers the boucherie — the traditional Creole hog butchering and cooking event — alongside French and Kouri-Vini language demonstrations, Creole French Bingo, a genealogy section helping attendees trace family lineage, food trucks and vendors, and live music throughout the day.

The day is intentionally free and intentionally local. Heritage that depends on a ticket is heritage that excludes. Creole Culture Day exists so that the people who carry the tradition can come and pass it on, in their own language, in their own park.

The event is now powered by Vues de Culture, having been handed over from its founding organization. Vues de Culture stewards the event year-round and produces the annual program.

The Boucherie · Cooking Demo

The Hog BecomesThe Meal.

The cooking demo is the heart of the day. We butcher the hog on site and the demo runs in French and Kouri-Vini through every cut. We make cracklin, boudin, fresh-cut okra, and we grill all of it on the hog. Every plate from the boucherie is served free to attendees.

Hands-on. Tasting along the way. The traditions handed down on the cutting board, in the language they were taught in.
